Anger. Sadness. Happy. Fear. Disgust. Confused.
You may not know this but feelings have a purpose: To communicate to others and ourselves what we’re experiencing in our bodies. They are not something we should ignore. Without them, we would be zombies.
That is not the purpose of being humans.
We are meant to feel as much as living and breathing. The art of feeling is what makes us who we are. Feeling makes you authentic.
It’s not an easy thing to do when you’ve been discouraged or unsure for a long time. With the right support, you will be able to feel by:
Learning the various emotions that exist
Identifying and communicating what you’re feeling
Being able to connect what you’re experiencing in your body to an emotion
Having the safe space to explore different ways to express those emotions that match your authentic self
You may feel all these emotions but don’t know how to express them. Sometimes you don’t know how to feel because you were discouraged to express how you felt throughout childhood. You become overwhelmed with what you’re feeling to the point that you shut down. Despite watching Inside Out 1 and 2, you’re still hesitant to show your true emotions even though the movies called you out.
It’s frustrating (pun intended).
